Meeting Minutes

Location : National Library.
Date & Time : 28th October, 6pm to 10pm
Issues Discussed : Re-Conceptualisation of Project, Roles & Responsibilities, Publicity, Aids for Viewers, Fund-Raising, Floor Plan

Today's meeting was crucial such that it changed the direction in which the team would be going in. Instead of creating an avant-garde piece, we would be doing a piece inspired by the avant-garde genre. This means we would be adapting and using certain art techniques of the avant-garde genre to aid us in the creation and completion of our work. Discussion today also touched on the various projects within our work.

We have also revised and re-distributed roles and responsibilities within the team. Each member would be given a sector in which he or she is in-charge of. The leader(s) of each sector would be responsible for tasks such as scripting and conceptualising before working together with the rest of the team to realise that idea.

Ben - Visual Art sector (Drawings, Paintings etc.)
Janice - Blog, Visual Art sector (Photography)
Carrick - Film (Pre, Pro & Post)
Tosh - Blog, Film (Pre, Pro & Post)
Douglas - Sound (Recording, Mixing, Cutting etc.)

Publicity would be required for our project and how are we going to go about doing it has yet to be decided. This issue would be touched on again in future.

We also discussed whether or not a guide, in the form of a booklet or piece of paper, should be provided for viewers so as to aid them in better understanding what is our exhibition about as well as knowing what to do when they enter our 'room'. Below are some ideas shared.

- Pasting guidelines at each exhibit in the room.
- Printing a guidebook/flyer.
- Putting up a poster beside the entrance of the room.

We might be embarking on a fund-raising expedition for our project as the budget seems to be increasing over time. This would be decided on within the next week or so as we continue sourcing for items needed.

Midpoint Presentation

Our midpoint did not go as smoothly as expected. However, we will not be faltered but instead learn from this experience and further improve upon our project. Points raised by the assessors during our midpoint presentation are as follows...

1) In what ways can we be more creative in making use of the room to aid us in expressing our works?
2) Are some of our works really avant-garde?

We will take all points raised by the assessors into consideration.

NEVER SAY DIE!

The Story behind UPN9

UPN9 tells the story of an artist that goes by the alias of Bohemian. He neither acknowledges nor regards himself as a person but rather an entity whose sole purpose of existence is to express artistically. Growing up, he was constantly taught by his family to conform to social and cultural norms, to be the best that he can be in the eyes of society - educated, respected, well-mannered and what not. He did as he was told and achieved much, which made his parents and peers very proud and envious of him.

Despite having such a strict upbringing, he constantly questions and challenges authority, popular truths and conventional ways of artistic expression. On his 18th birthday, he ran away from home in search of a new life and eventually came to a conclusion - He would rent a room and have it be the physical representation and house of his creative intelligence. Hence, he embarked on the journey of self-expression till one fateful day, he disappeared from the face of the earth. Nobody knows when, where and how.

All he left behind were 9 personal projects of his... the final one left unfinished.

Team Meeting Minutes

Location : Coffee Shop opposite RP
Date & Time : 10th October, 5.15pm - 7pm

During the meeting, the team has further developed on our concept (read below), discussing what is going to go into the room as well as considering the factors that might affect us in setting up our project. ( such as how and what are we going to use to build a room )

We also came up with the storyline and background info. about the artist.

Location of installation.
The space at E3. (tentatively)

Concept.
Merging the 5 different minds of us into a single mind of an artist.
The team will built a room belonging to this artist.
Inside the room will consist of 9 different works of his, and which the last one would be unfinished on purpose, of course.
His works would consist of film, sounds as well as visuals.

Background info. of artists.
He is a loner living in his own world and his only focus in life is art.
His style of works are mostly experimental and he is constantly trying everything different.
In his works, there are hints of him leaving and eventually the last piece of work would be deliberately left unfinished to let the audience know that he has left.

As for where he went, that would be left a mystery.

The team has came up with certain ideas on what is going to go into the room and therefore each of us will come up with different works of our own and then coming together to put everything in place.

Guys do edit/change where ever you all would like.
See you all next week.

Till then, Janice.

Meeting1 - 190908

Blog is up. (:

Met up with our supervisor for the first time.
Discussed our concept and realised that concept was not strong enough and we have yet to identify a main purpose for our work.

Therefore, we have to now finalize a solid idea and concept as well as knowing the purpose for our art work.

Whether to stick with original plan or come up with something brand new is something we're gonna decide next.
